Who can apply for funding?
Nonprofit organizations and local government agencies may apply for grants from Illinois Clean Energy. The Foundation does not make grants to individuals or for-profit businesses.
Where does Illinois Clean Energy get its money?
As an independent nonprofit organization, the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation gets the money for its programs each year from the investment income earned on its endowment. That endowment was established by Commonwealth Edison with a $225 million gift in 1999.
Will all grant requests be approved?
No. The Foundation’s grant programs are competitive and a limited amount of funds are available for each program each year.
Are grant recipients required to use specific vendors?
No. Grant recipients exercise complete control over the process of selecting any vendors, contractors or consultants involved in their projects.
