Design & Commissioning

Requests for Design and Commissioning Grant Opportunities are accepted on a rolling review basis throughout the year. The facility to be designed and commissioned must be owned by the grant applicant, located in Illinois, and used primarily or entirely by the applicant for its tax exempt purpose. The facility must also meet minimum LEED Silver certification standards.

Because of the time required to prepare a proposal, the Foundation strongly recommends applicants contact Bob Romo at 312-372-5191 to discuss your project prior to submitting a proposal. You will be notified approximately two to four months from receipt of your proposal of the Foundation's decision on your request. The Foundation's review process is competitive. Not all applicants will be awarded grants.

In order to be considered for a grant, applicants must submit a proposal electronically by following these steps:

Step 1: Read the Design and Commissioning Program Guidelines and Criteria for information on eligibility submittal requirements. Applications are accepted throughout the year.

Step 2:

Step 3: Complete All Required Application Fields Online. The online application will prompt you complete all required items. If you do not complete all requirements, you will not be able to submit a complete application. The Foundation allows for the submission of additional documents (e.g., business plan, energy audit, organization chart, etc.) in the online application. (If you can not access a required attachment, we ask that you create a word document to explain why it was omitted and to then upload that in the place of the required document. If you have any questions about the required attachments, please contact us prior to submitting your proposal.)

Step 4: Review and Submit Your Online Application. Once you are finished entering information and attaching any required documents, click "Review and Submit." You will have an opportunity to review materials before submitting your application. If any elements are missing, you will be prompted to complete the relevant section or attach the needed document before moving forward.

After clicking "Submit," you will receive an e-mail confirmation. If you do not receive an e-mail confirmation, please check your spam or junk folders for the message.

Once you have submitted an application online, please do not mail a duplicate hard copy or any additional attachments or information. Program officers will contact you if they have questions or need additional information.
