The Foundation's grants have helped dozens of public and
nonprofit building owners incorporate energy efficient features into
the design of new and remodeled facilities to reduce energy consumption
and operating costs throughout the lifetime of those buildings. The
design features can be as simple as increasing the use of natural light
with well-positioned windows, tapping into natural underground heat
sources or specifying efficient systems and materials.
DESIGN AND COMMISSIONING
Funding is available for the incremental costs of designing
and/or commissioning of new or substantially remodeled public or nonprofit
facilities in Illinois to be highly energy efficient.
Grant requests for these projects may be submitted at any time during
the year. The Foundation strongly encourages interested applicants
to contact Bob
Romo at the Foundation's office prior to submitting
a grant application. Mr. Romo will provide information on the application
requirements for this program along with information on other grant
opportunities for new or substantially remodeled "green" buildings.
Please refer to the Green
Building Design & Commissioning Program Guidelines
for application requirements. Please note that changes have been made
to the guidelines for requests submitted after February 1, 2010.

MODEL EFFICIENT BUILDING SYSTEMS
The Foundation provides grants to support the installation
in public or nonprofit buildings in Illinois of innovative energy-saving
systems or technologies that are new to the Illinois market. Soy-based
"green" roofs are one example of a model building technology
that has been supported by the Foundation: being highly reflective,
it saves energy, cooling costs and promotes Illinois' agriculture economy
by helping grow a nontraditional market for soybeans.
Grant requests for these projects are accepted through
the Foundation's semi-annual competitive grant cycles. The competitive
cycle grant application deadlines during 2010 are January
20 and July 20.

BUILDING CODES
The Foundation supports the adoption and implementation of local
energy efficiency building codes and builds momentum for the environmental
benefits of these codes among municipal officials, businesses and the design
and construction industries.
Grant requests for these projects may be submitted at
any time during the year. Please refer to the Green
Building Design & Commissioning Program Guidelines
or contact Bob Romo at the Foundation's office for more information
about these grants and what information must be included in the grant
application.
