- Where can I find more information on my local wind resource?
-
A great starting point is www.illinoiswind.org that includes maps with wind speeds at different elevations. Because wind resources are very site specific, be sure to have a wind assessment done for a proposed turbine site.

- Does ICECF limit the capacity (kW) of the renewable energy projects it funds?
-
No. The Foundation does not place any restrictions on the size of the project. However, applicants compete for a limited amount funds during the grant cycles.
- Can I combine a Foundation grant with support from the State of Illinois?
-
Yes, but for Solar Thermal and Solar Photovoltaic installations the combined grant support (from the Foundation and the State) cannot exceed the Foundation’s incentive levels. This means that if you have received a grant from the State, we may provide incremental funding up to the Foundation’s incentive levels.
- Where can I get a grant to help fund a photovoltaic, solar thermal or wind turbine installation for my home?
-
The Foundation only funds 501(c)(3) charitable organizations and public entities serving Illinois residents. Please see below for a list of resources, including funding, for renewable energy.

- I am looking for a job in renewable energy. Where should I look?
-
Start by doing an internet search for “green jobs”. A good place to start is websites like www.greenjobs.com, www.sustainablebusiness.com/jobs, and www.ases.org but there are many other sites, too. Please see below for a list of resources on renewable energy.

- What makes for a successful Letter of Inquiry or Proposal?
-
The most successful requests for funding are focused on the project and its context, and demonstrate that critical details have been thought through. Successful applicants have demonstrated that they were ready to move forward with their project in a timely manner, and that the Foundation could be confident in the short-term and long-term success of the project. Most importantly, successful applicants provide a complete request that addresses all questions and requirements from the Foundation thoroughly and concisely. Many of the Foundation’s grants are for capital projects, and properly addressing the technical components of a project is a plus. It is important to carefully read the Program Areas descriptions and How to Apply pages relevant to the grant opportunity being sought.
The Foundation’s grant application process is competitive. Following review of all invited proposals, the Foundation may award some grants at the level invited, award other grants at a level lower than was invited or decline some proposals altogether.
