Where does the Foundation’s endowment come from?
The Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation was established in December 1999 as an independent foundation endowed with $225 million from Commonwealth Edison Company.
Who can apply for Illinois Clean Energy Grants?
The Foundation provides funding to federally recognized 501c3 nonprofit organizations and state and local government agencies serving Illinois residents.
What are ineligible activities?
The Foundation will not provide funding for remediation of environmentally impaired properties; technology research; promotion of proprietary products; reoccurring operating costs; political campaigns or lobbying; capital or endowment campaigns; or projects undertaken by individuals.
Who makes the grant decisions?
A Board of Trustees reviews and approves awards based on the funding guidelines and procedures.
Is the Foundation's grant making process competitive?
Yes. The Foundation’s review process is competitive. Not every project is funded and not every project funded is awarded at the level requested.
