Advancing Renewable Energy


The Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation supports activities to develop and encourage the use of renewable energy throughout Illinois. This may include funding opportunities to assist in the purchase of specialized hardware for the implementation of hands-on training programs at colleges and universities.  Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact the Foundation's Program Officer for Renewable Energy prior to submitting a Letter of Inquiry.

Application Deadlines:Letters of Inquiry are due January 15, or July 16, 2013.  

Review Process:

4 months. Within two months of the above deadlines, a committee of the Foundation's Board of Trustees will decide whether to invite applicants to submit Full Proposals for consideration by the Board of Trustees that announces grants in early May and early November. The Foundation's review process is competitive.

Available Support:The Foundation reviews and funds grant requests in this category on a case-by-case basis.

Restrictions: The Foundation does not fund remediation of environmentally impaired properties, technology research, promotion of proprietary products, reoccurring operating costs, political campaigns of lobbying, capital or endowment campaigns, or projects undertaken by individuals. The project must be wholly owned by an eligible applicant and cannot include ownership by private investors or commercial interests.

The Foundation gives priority to projects that:

  • have secured all additional funding
  • feature a strong education and outreach component
